The death has taken place on Saturday 12th April of the former President of Ireland, Dr. Patrick J. Hillery.

Patrick J Hillery: State funeral arrangements
Dr. Hillary was first been elected to the Dáil in 1951. He served as Minister for Education (1959-1965), Minister for Industry & Commerce (1965-1966), Minister for Labour (1966-1969) and as Minister for External Affairs (1969-1973), he negociated the entry of Ireland into the European Union (EEC). In 1973 he was appointed Ireland’s first European Commissioner. In 1976, following Cearbhall Ó Dálaigh resignation, he became President of Ireland serving two terms until 1990. Arrangements for the state funeral for former Irish President Patrick J Hillery have been announced.
Dr. Hillery?s remains will be brought to the Pro-Cathedral in Dublin on Tuesday at 1600 hrs, where members of the public will be able to pay their respects. The cathedral will remain open until 2200 hrs.
A book of condolences has also been opened at the cathedral.
Funeral mass will take place at 1200 hrs on Wednesday, followed by the state funeral. Burial will take place at St. Fintan?s cometary in Sutton, County Dublin.
Taoiseach designate, Brian Cowen, will give a graveside oration at the funeral
